Toddlers We have 2 toddler rooms to meet the needs of your children. Our spacious but cozy toddler rooms are ideal spaces for toddlers to begin their stay at Starbright. Toddlers who may not have been with a group of children before will find our classrooms fun and comforting places to come to every day.
Teachers in these classrooms have their early childhood teaching certificates and college training so that they understand the needs of these little tykes. In our youngest toddler room we have a 1-4 or a 1-5 ratio of children with a maximum group size of 14 and three teachers. Children in the older toddler room will have 2 teachers with 14 children. Older toddlers will remain in their classroom until they are physically and psychologically ready for a larger preschool classroom with a larger group size. We do not rush children out of their nurturing, intimate toddler environment so that their emotional needs are met during this challenging stage of their development.

Preschool There are 4 full-day preschool classrooms available for children ranging from 30 months - 5 years-old. Our youngest preschool classroom has 2 1/2 - 3 year-olds who are mostly toilet trained. In our next youngest preschool group we have 3 year-olds. These children are fully toilet-trained but often still in need of extra nurturing and attention.
In our 4 year-old classroom, children are learning how to play in small groups, learning to share, and becoming more organized in their manipulation of educational materials and toys. Most of their day will be taken up with play and fun activities through which they can begin to learn self-discipline and self-help skills. In this group children are beginning to engage in group activities and some teacher- directed instruction. They will have more responsibility for clean-up, behavior management, and self- help skills. They will begin to explore phonics and more academic skills in a fun and interesting manner.
Our oldest group of preschoolers range from 4-5 years old and are getting ready for kindergarten. They will be participating in language arts, handwriting, math, and other more academic topics as they show readiness. A strong emphasis on the arts and problem-solving will occur throughout our preschool program.
We also have a part-day preschool classroom available for a mixed group of 3-5 year olds. This fun and challenging classroom is open from 8:30-12:00 each morning for families who don't need a full-day program.

Full-Day Kindergarten Our full-day kindergarten program is the ultimate experience for your 5 year old child (or turns 5 by 11/15). With a maximum of 20 children and two teachers in the classroom, your child will receive a fun, intimate and challenging academic experience.
Our full-day kindergarten program will be instructed by a certified Montessori teacher. This classroom includes many rich and varied activities not found in public school kindergartens. Because of the small group size and quality instruction, kindergartners will have much more personalized attention and be exposed to a variety of activities to promote their developmental growth in all areas.
Children ready to read will begin to read with the Letter People phonics program along with English readers designed for rapid advancement. Children in this group will have daily instruction in language arts, math, foreign language, reading, science, and social studies, and much more. They will receive quarterly report cards and regular assessments outlining their development. Learning objectives will supercede standards set by the Mukilteo and Everett school districts.
During the summer we offer a specially designed K-1 summer camp full of exciting field trips, visits to the park, and fun filled weekly themes.

Parent Education
All parents attend a parent orientation upon enrollment with our program. During this evening session parents are introduced to positive discipline and classroom management techniques used at our school.
Dr. Kim Borgatta will present "Shaping Behavior" a five-step system to shaping your child's behavior with positive discipline techniques that work throughout your child's life. She uses various educational theories to offer parents a simple tried and true method for teaching their child good behavior.
Other parent education classes may be offered reflecting the interests of current families enrolled. Dr. Borgatta also works with families on an individual basis to offer solutions to basic parenting concerns.
